Feds, New Brunswick to fund $32M upgrade project at wastewater plant outside Shediac

A major upgrade project a the Greater Shediac Sewerage Commission Wastewater Treatment Plant in Boudreau-Ouest, N.B. is moving forward with backing from the federal and provincial governments.

Officials from both levels of government, as well as the Greater Shediac Sewerage Commission, were in the community just east of Shediac Aug. 7 to announce funding for the $32.1 million project.

The plant expansion requires the construction of a new outfall, three lagoon cells, new screening and grit removal systems, a UV disinfection area and a moving bed biofilm reactor. Laying about 2,500 metres of wastewater pipe will also be required to increase capacity at the facility.

The federal government has settled on a $16.1 million contribution for the work, the province will spend $10.7 million, and the Greater Shediac Sewerage Commission is add another $5.3 million.
