Feds back $48M project to rebuild Red Crow College building in Alberta after fire

Five years after it was destroyed in a fire, the main campus building at Red Crow Community College in southern Alberta will be rebuilt.

The federal government announced funding Oct. 1 for the $48 million project in Cardston County, Alta., along with financial backing for three other projects under the Investing in Canada Plan.

Ottawa said the new 9,888 square-metre (approximately 106,000 sq. ft.) campus building will include classrooms, labs, workshops, administrative areas, a library, cafeteria, among other spaces.

The three other, far smaller construction projects include the addition of an Indigenous gathering space at the University of Lethbridge, an extension at Medicine Hat College and renovations at a French community project in Calgary.

The value of the four projects totals $52.7 million, with $21.9 million from Ottawa, $30.7 million from the funding applicants and $125,000 from the province.
