Mississauga, Ont.-based contractor EllisDon has set up a new building group dedicated specifically to tackling affordable and supportive housing projects.

The company officially launched EllisDon Community Builders (EDCB) Feb. 10, leveraging its cradle-to-grave project capabilities.

“We have undertaken a unique approach to addressing Canada’s affordable housing crisis with a replicable and scalable solution,” Nicholas Gefucia, vice-president of EDCB, said in a release. “Our offering is not simply a development and construction solution. It is a holistic and comprehensive approach that ensures the delivery of assets that communities can be proud of.”

The new group is designed to get involved in new projects early, taking builds from development to construction to completion. EllisDon said it has developed a flexible template for affordable housing that prioritizes costs, timelines, durability and value for money. Using its concept, it noted, projects can be delivered conventionally or through modular construction.
