Construction is underway on a new hotel and business centre at the northwest end of Toronto.
Officials from SAMM Developments, among other project partners, marked the official start of work Sept. 23. on the $104 million Regal Plaza Corporate Centre at 600 Dixon Rd.
Located in a busy triangle bordered by highways 401, 409 and 427, not far from Toronto Pearson International Airport, the site will house a Staybridge Suites hotel, as well as office and commercial space.
Toronto-based builder Gillam Group is taking on the construction management of the project, which was designed by IBI Group.
The 11-storey tower will cover 335,650 sq. ft. Retail shops are expected to occupy the ground level, office space floors two through four, and the extended-stay hotel the remaining upper storeys. The project also includes two levels of underground parking and a new atrium connecting it to an existing Holiday Inn next door.
Construction is expected to employ about 50 workers over 2 1/2 years. The new business complex is scheduled to open in March 2023.
