Construction GDP down in October

According to a recent Statistics Canada report, gross domestic product (GDP) in the construction sector fell by 0.1 per cent in the month of October 2012, following no change in the previous month. However, the sector’s GDP was up 3.1 per cent when compared to October 2011.

The sector experienced a decrease in residential and non-residential building construction in the month of October, which more than offset increased engineering construction and repair work.

Canada’s overall real gross domestic product was up 0.1 per cent in the month of October, led by increased GDP in the wholesale trade, retail trade, mining oil and gas extraction and utilities sectors.
