Concrete crews top off new 25-storey office tower on Toronto waterfront

Another addition to Toronto’s eastern waterfront was topped off on Queens Quay this week.

Menkes Developments Ltd. said crews poured the last of the concrete for the 25-storey tower Aug. 24. The developer held off on the traditional topping off celebration as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, but thanked construction crews for their hard work completing the structural elements of the project.

EllisDon is serving as the general contractor for the 100 Queens Quay East project, which includes 690,000 sq. ft. of office space and is designed to achieve the LEED Platinum environmental standard.

The new building is one of a handful of towers planned for the former LCBO Head Office Lands. Menkes, along with several partners, purchased the parcel from the province in 2016 for $260 million. Once complete, the mixed-use development, known as Sugar Wharf, is expected to house about 7,500 residents and 4,000 office workers.

Among other tenants, the LCBO plans will situate its headquarters in the new office tower, occupying about a third of the floor space. A new 25,000 sq. ft. flagship liquor store will operate on the ground floor.

Construction on 100 Queens Quay East started at the beginning of 2018 and is scheduled to be complete next spring.
