Months after entering into a strategic partnership, two Alberta modular builders are combining their businesses.

Nomodic Modular Structures Inc. said June 25 it has acquired Aithra Projects Inc., a Crossfield, Alta.-based modular installation company best known for work camps and site services.

Nomodic said the deal will combine Aithra’s mechanical and electrical contracting capabilities with its experience in project management, construction management and turnkey modular projects. The acquisition follows a strategic partnership the two off-site construction firms struck three months ago.

“Since our partnership began in March, we’ve worked seamlessly together while successfully navigating a global pandemic,” said Kevin Read, president and CEO of Calgary-based Nomodic, in a release. “The ability to expand Nomodic’s service offering and provide industry-leading modular solutions lends itself perfectly to our purpose and promise of ‘leaving things better.’”

Nomodic, which takes on a range of modular projects, including multi-unit residential, affordable housing and hotel work, said the deal will allow it to continue expanding its business in Western Canada, Ontario and the U.S. while adding increased capabilities in mechanical and electrical building.

Modular and off-site construction methods continue to gain ground across Canada as contractors adjust to new ways of building.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
