Building, Industrial groups at Stuart Olson win $225M in new contracts

Stuart Olson Inc. has disclosed a pair of major new contracts won by its Building and Industrial groups.

The Calgary-based contractor, which agreed to be acquired last month by Bird Construction Inc., said the new work is worth $225 million.

A construction management project for a post-secondary institution in Ontario is one of the two major new projects. The other, won by the Industrial Group, is a four-year maintenance and turnaround contract for a repeat oilsands client.

The agreement with Bird last month will see the two Canadian contractors merge into a single entity with approximately 5,000 workers and a backlog of about $3 billion. The $96.5 million deal is expected to close by the end of the year.
