According to a recent Statistics Canada report, average weekly earnings in the construction sector increased 0.5 per cent in October to $1,142.83, when compared to September ($1,137.13 ).
On a year-over-year basis from October 2011 to October 2012, average weekly earnings in the construction sector increased 4.8 per cent (from $1,090.33 to $1,142.83), with the most significant growth experienced in the construction of non-residential buildings, highways, streets and bridges.
Overall average weekly earnings for non-farm payroll employees across the country was up 0.9 per cent in October to $909, when compared to September, and up 2.8 per cent over the 12-month period.
The largest 12-month increases in average weekly earnings across the provinces from October 2011 to October 2012 were experienced in Newfoundland and Labrador (up 4.7 per cent to $943.39), Nova Scotia (up 4.7 per cent to $804.97) and Saskatchewan (up 4.6 per cent to $932.22).
