‘Applied Arts Partners’ to build new Emily Carr University campus

$123M project built to LEED Gold under Wood First Act

The construction of a new home for Emily Carr University of Art + Design took another step forward recently with the signing of a contract between Emily Carr University and Applied Arts Partners.

The signing of the contract signals the end of negotiations and the finalization of a fixed-price, performance-based partnership agreement with Applied Arts Partners to design, build, finance and maintain the new university campus. Applied Arts Partners will maintain the new campus for 30 years as part of the contract.

    • Diamond Schmitt Architects Inc.
    • Chernoff Thompson Architects
    • EllisDon Corporation
    • Brookfield Infrastructure Partners L.P.
    • Fengate Capital Management Inc.
    • Johnson Controls Inc

Construction is expected to begin this spring. More details about the design of the building will be revealed at that time. The new facility will be designed to achieve LEED Gold Certification and will comply with the Wood First Act. The new campus is expected to be completed in March 2017 and will create an estimated 1,000 jobs during construction.

The capital cost of the project is budgeted at up to $122.65 million, including a provincial investment of up to $101.65 million, with $21 million to be raised through the university’s current capital campaign.
