CALEDON, Ont.—American tech giant Amazon is doubling down on Ontario.

Just two weeks after the company announced plans to build a new fulfillment centre in the Ottawa suburbs, the online retailer said it plans to build another of the sprawling warehouses in Caledon, Ont.

The new facility will cover about one million sq. ft. in the town northwest of Toronto. Like other Amazon warehouses, the site will serve mainly as an order shipping hub where workers will prepare online purchases for shipment.

The company said the facility will employ 800 full-time workers once operational, but did not disclose any details about the construction phase.

The warehouse will become Amazon’s sixth in the province. Like the recently-announced Ottawa facility, the Caledon site is expected to open in 2019.

Amazon’s Ontario building binge comes as the company weighs an even larger construction decision. It plans to select the city that will host its so-called HQ2 sometime this year. Toronto is the only Canadian city still in the running for the multibillion-dollar project.
