Structal-Bridges, a division of Canam Group Inc., was recently awarded more than $20 million in contracts for work on the replacement for the Memorial Bridge on U.S. 1 and the North Channel Bridge in Cornwall, Ont.
The Quebec-based company's work on the replacement for the Memorial Bridge will involve the fabrication of the replacement steel structure for the lift bridge between Kittery, Maine and Portsmouth, N.H.
The 900-ft. bridge was originally built in 1923 and was closed down in July 2011 due to deteriorated conditions.
The contract is valued at $12 million and was awarded by Archer Western Contractors, a subsidiary of Walsh Construction Company.
The project requires the fabrication of three 300-ft.-long through truss spans, two 163-ft. (49.7 m) towers for the bridge's moveable section of the bridge and a replacement steel structure for the approaches to the main bridge.
The components for the project will be fabricated at the Canam Group plant in Claremont, N.H.
The project is scheduled to begin in September 2012 and be completed by February 2013.
North Channel Bridge
Structal-Bridges also recently agreed to a $9-million contract with Aecon Group Inc. for part of the North Channel Bridge Replacement Project in Cornwall, Ont.
The project will include the fabrication and installation of box girders, and the fabrication of structural bearings.
