SNC-Lavalin, in a joint venture with Skanska, was recently awarded a contract for the Newark Energy Center in New Jersey.

The Montreal-based firm will provide engineering, procurement, start-up and commissioning services for the 655-MW, gas-fired combined cycle power plant.

Skanska will be responsible for construction and site management.

The plant is expected to be operational by 2015 and feature the latest General Electric F class 5 series combustion gas turbines.

In other news, SNC-Lavalin recently received a notice of termination from its client for a fixed-price EPC contract awarded in November 2011.

The contract was for a froth treatment plant in Fort McMurray, Alta.

SNC-Lavalin stated that the project will be debooked from its backlog in the fourth quarter of 2012 and does not expect the termination to have a material impact on its fourth quarter earnings.
