SaskPower project worth $45 million

SNC-Lavalin has been awarded the owner’s engineer contract by SaskPower for the Island Falls Powerhouse Concrete Rehabilitation project in Saskatchewan. The total capital cost of the project is $45M.

SNC-Lavalin will provide the detailed engineering design; the preparation of drawings and technical specifications necessary for the tender and construction of the concrete rehabilitation; repairs to the Island Falls Powerhouse, Main Dam and A-Dam; and construction supervision and contract management support. The work will be divided into eight phases, spanning a four-and-a-half-year period between 2015 and 2019.

The Island Falls Hydro Station is a hydroelectric generating facility consisting of seven units, ranging in capacity from 13.2 megawatts to 18 megawatts, located approximately 15 kilometres from the Village of Sandy Bay.

“SaskPower is one of SNC-Lavalin’s long-time clients,” said Marie-Claude Dumas, Executive Vice-President, Hydro. “Our hydro team is very pleased for the opportunity to work with them on this rehabilitation project.”

SNC-Lavalin is committed to providing employment opportunities to members of Aboriginal communities for the Island Falls Powerhouse project, and will continue to work with SaskPower to establish the most suitable framework for Aboriginal subcontractor participation.
