Construction Financing Infrastructure P3s

A request for qualifications has been issued by Infrastructure Ontario and St. Michael’s Hospital to design, build and finance a new 17-storey patient-care tower at the corner of Queen Street and Victoria Street, as well as renovate approximately 150,000 sq. ft. of existing space.

With the construction of the new tower, St. Michael’s Hospital will be able to relocate patient beds from an 85-year-old wing and offer a larger space for its programs, which includes patients from the medical-surgical intensive care unit and the largest adult cystic fibrosis program in North America. The project will also create five new hybrid operating rooms, where surgeons will be able to perform minimally invasive, image-guided or catheter-based procedures and undertake open surgery in the same operating room.

The emergency department will be expanded to accommodate more than 70,000 patients annually. It currently accommodates 45,000 patients a year.

After RFQ submissions are reviewed, pre-qualified project teams will be given an opportunity to respond to a request for proposals, expected to be issued in early spring 2013.
