KBC Tools 50-years-young

KBC Tools and Machinery Inc., originally known as “Kabaco Tools” is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Started in 1965 by Karel Bass in Detroit, Michigan, KBC began as a catalogue house selling surplus and English tools to the metalworking industry at a discount. KBC’s original home was 1,000-sq. ft of rental space. For the next three years, Bass commuted between London, England to Detroit, Michigan, moving his family to Michigan in 1968 and John Earles as Vice-President. At the same time the company expanded its space.  In the 80’s, the business expanded with a branch office in California and later with branches across the US and Canada (when free trade happened.) In 1990,  the first of the second generation joined the team when Paula, Karel’s daughter became the manager of the Toronto branch, and in 1993 was appointed president. In 2001, the three Toronto branches were amalgamated into a 40,000 square foot showroom, warehouse, and Canadian headquarters.

McInnis Cement has named Alexandre Rail as Plant Manager of the Port-DanielGascons cement plant. He will be responsible for overseeing the operational and financial performances of the cement plant. “We are pleased with our recruitment of an experienced manager in the heavy industry who shares our values in the areas of health and safety, environment and quality. Alexandre has proven abilities to mobilize employees,” said Christian Gagnon, CEO of McInnis Cement. Rail holds a PhD and master’s degree in mechanical engineering from McGill University as well as a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Concordia University. The company also named Mark T. Newhart as Vice President, Logistics and Distribution and member of the management team of the company.

eBay and Proxibid join forces

eBay and Proxibid have partnered to create online live auctions for heavy equipment, industrial machinery, farm equipment, cars and trucks. Proxibid’s auction company partners will be able to participate in live auctions on the eBay marketplace using the company’s software solutions and real-time bidding technology.

New ED at Fort McMurray Construction Association

Lana Maloney is the new executive director for the Fort McMurray Construction Association, taking over from Diane Slater who led the association for 15 years. Maloney, a 30-year resident of the area, is also not new to the association having worked there for a number of years already. The association will continue to deliver the quality services it always has, Maloney says. In addition, her personal focus will be on helping local construction companies weather the storm of fluctuating oil prices as well as helping them capitalize on work surrounding the 2015 Alberta Summer Games.

Textura Australasia Leader

Textura Corporation, a provider of collaboration solutions for the construction industry, has named veteran construction technology leader Milton Walters to head its Australasia operations, Textura Australasia Pty Ltd. As President of Textura Australasia, Walters will build on the operation’s early successes in establishing Textura’s market presence in Australia. He will drive both Textura Australasia’s Asia-Pacific expansion and the rollout of additional Textura collaboration solutions to that region.
