Lafarge expresses condolences following tragic death of Ontario cyclist

Lafarge Canada recently issued a statement regarding the death of a 19-year-old female cyclist, who died after colliding with one of the company’s cement trucks in London, Ont.

According to Police, the accident occurred around 3:15 p.m. on Aug. 7 when the woman was riding her bike westbound and the cement truck was attempting to turn north at the intersection of Wharncliffe Road and Riverside Drive in London. Emergency crews rushed the woman to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

“We were deeply distressed when we learned of this fatal incident involving a concrete truck owned and operated by Lafarge and a cyclist in London. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are affected by this tragedy, especially the family and friends of the cyclist,” said Shawn Tylee, General Manager, Southwestern Ontario, Lafarge Canada.

“To know that a family has been forever changed by this tragedy is devastating. The loss is heart wrenching, the impact lasting. Today, and for many days to come, our hearts will be with the family and friends as they face this difficult time,” he said.

“At Lafarge, safety is our most important value. This terrible tragedy serves to remind us of the vital importance of safety in our community. We are taking all necessary steps to establish all of the facts and will cooperate fully with the authorities as they continue their investigation,” he said.
