Freightliner names Toronto ‘Hardest Working City’

The city of Toronto has just been announced as the next Freightliner Trucks Hardest Working City.

The recognition program by Freightliner Trucks honors cities spearheading community growth and innovation. After an exhaustive review of approximately 400 metropolitan census areas in the United States and Canada, Toronto will receive the award today in recognition of having one of the largest construction, manufacturing, and transportation workforces in North America.

“As the fourth largest city in North America and a workforce leader, it’s no surprise Toronto is home to where hard work happens,” said Jeffrey Gardiner, vocational sales manager, Freightliner Trucks of Canada.

The major projects underway in the region include as the $83 million expansion and improvement project for Highway 427, $261 million York Viva Bus Rapid Transit System Some project and the multi-billion dollar rapid transit Crosstown and Eglinton Avenue initiatives being overseen by Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario.

This year, Toronto will also spend more than $550 million on construction projects to help keep essential infrastructure in top condition, telling us this city not only works hard, but works smart.

Organizations such as Aecon, Toronto Hydro Corp, and EllisDon Corp., Bird, Maple Reinders and Bondfield  construction  call the Greater Toronto area home for a reason: it has one of the largest workforces in the country, bringing in billions of dollars annually.

“This year alone, Toronto is planning to invest more than $550 million on construction projects to help keep essential infrastructure in top condition, telling us this city not only works hard, but works smart,” said Gardiner

As part of the Toronto celebration, Freightliner Trucks will host an award presentation on October 1 at Harper Truck Centres’ Mississauga location. Workers, truck equipment manufacturers, and community leaders will be in attendance. Additionally, surprise gift deliveries will be made to several Toronto jobsites that week to thank city workers for their hard work.

Since the launch of the recognition program earlier this year, the company has awarded the Hardest Working Cities title to Indianapolis, Salt Lake City, Nashville, and Los Angeles and thanked hundreds of workers at jobsites. Toronto is the first Canadian city named in the recognition program.
