CAWIC launches project to promote women in construction

Construction Skills DevelopmentThe Canadian Association of Women in Construction (CAWIC) has launched a three-year project in St. John’s, N.L. to promote women’s advancement in the construction industry.
The federal government, through the Status of Women Canada, awarded CAWIC a grant for $249,900 earlier this year. Working with industry partners, CAWIC will use the money for the Women’s Advancement Project to develop an action plan to open doors for women in construction.
“This is an important step for the construction industry. Working collaboratively, we will advance women’s roles in the industry,” said Tammy Evans, CAWIC’s director. “We are proud to work with the Government of Canada to address Canada’s skilled trades shortage and to attract more women to the construction industry.”
CAWIC is looking for employers, unions and educational partners who share its vision to promote change and break down barriers for women in the construction industry. CAWIC believes the provinces of Alberta, Ontario and Newfoundland/Labrador are the best candidates to get involved in this initiative.
