Bird Construction Inc. subsidiary awarded contract with Nalcor Energy

H.J. O’Connell, a St.John’s, Nfld.-based wholly-owned subsidiary of Bird Construction Inc., is part of a consortium that was recently awarded an excavation and civil works contract with Nalcor Energy.
The IKC-ONE Earthworks Constructors consortium won a bulk excavation and civil works construction contract from Nalcor for work at its Muskrat Falls Hydroelectric Generating Station in lower Churchill River in Labrador.

The contract includes overburden and rock excavation of the intake, powerhouse, spillway, separation wall, switchyard and converter stations, and dams at the site of the 824-MW hydroelectric generating station in central Labrador.

Work on the project is expected to commence shortly and be complete at the end of 2013. 

The contract is valued in excess of $100 million.
