The province of Newfoundland and Labrador has announced more than $2.7 million in combined funding for critical water and storm infrastructure upgrades in Deer Lake.

Work involves replacing asbestos pipes with new sanitary and storm collection, and water distribution lines along 1.5 kilometres of First, Second and Third Streets.

Once complete, the project will reduce health risks associated with asbestos and improve the reliability of Deer Lake’s firefighting services. It will also support sustainability by making the water distribution system more efficient and reducing operation and maintenance costs.

The Government of Canada is contributing up to $1.07 million to this project, representing one-third of the estimated $3.2 million total eligible project cost. The Province of Newfoundland and Labrador will provide $1.65 million, and the remainder will be covered by the Town of Deer Lake.
