Gold medals to be announced at Oct. 21 Gala

Graham, Scott and PCL have emerged as multi silver award winners and are in the running for Gold medal standing in Vancouver Regional Construction Association’s 27th annual Awards of Excellence honouring the region’s construction leaders.

Each year, the VRCA recognizes the province’s best companies, individuals and projects in the construction industry through Silver Award announcements in August. Three Silver Award winners are selected in most categories for their use of innovative techniques, new materials or exceptional project management. One Silver Award winner from each category will be chosen as the Gold Award winner during the 27th Annual VRCA Awards of Excellence gala dinner on Oct. 21 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West.

“The caliber of entries was excellent and the competition was tough this year,” said Fiona Famulak, President of the VRCA.  “The Silver Award winners truly represent the finest in our industry and we are proud to honour them.”

In this year’s competition, 128 entrants and 37 projects were considered. The total value of projects considered in this year’s competition represented close to $500 million of construction throughout B.C.

The most significant trend seen in this year’s nominated projects was the increased use of wood and steel products and materials.  “The judges were wowed by the innovative designs and beauty of exposed wood used in many of the nominated projects,” said Tony Everett, Chair of the Awards of Excellence Committee.  “We saw more enthusiasm and passion in the nominees’ presentations than ever before.  It was great to see so much pride in the industry.”

Project Awards will also be granted in trade contractor, electrical contractor, mechanical contractor, and manufacturer & supplier categories.  In addition, the VRCA will present Outstanding Achievement (non-project) Awards at the October event for Member of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Education Leadership, Safety, Outstanding Woman in Construction, Innovation and Productivity, Construction Workplace Health & Safety Innovation and U40 Excellence in Construction.

Registration for this year’s Gala event is now open at: www.vrca.bc.ca/awards

With close to 700 members, VRCA is British Columbia’s largest and most inclusive regional construction association, representing union and non-union, general and trade contracting companies, manufacturers, suppliers and other professionals throughout the Lower Mainland from Hope to Whistler.
