PCL Presented Excellence in Concrete Construction Award
By Corinne Lynds
Concrete Construction Infrastructure Roads concrete PCL ready-mix transportation
Established in 1968, the awards program has recognized professional accomplishments in the outstanding use of Ready Mix Concrete throughout Washington State.
Built by Eastside Corridor Constructors, a joint venture between Granite Construction and PCL, the design-build project widened 2.5 miles of roadway along the SR 520 corridor. The scope of work included expanding the HOV lanes, improving transit stops, constructing direct access interchanges for transit and HOV, and building three landscaped freeway bridge structures, called lids. The project also included construction of a regional bicycle and pedestrian path, noise walls, and fish passage improvements. The project was part of an effort to improve commute times for residents living in and around the city of Seattle.
This is the third award earned by this project, having received the 2015 Alliant Build America Merit Award from the Associated General Contractors of America and the 2012 Gold Award by King County Industrial Waste Program.
