Bathurst Airport serves a population of 150,000 and more than 5,500 businesses within a one-hour radius by car. This makes the region one of the most important in New Brunswick, after the southeast.

The governments of Canada and New Brunswick are committing more than $4.19 million in funding to expand the Bathurst Regional Airport.
The funding was announced August 17th by Serge Cormier, Member of Parliament for Acadie–Bathurst, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and the Honourable Brian Gallant, Premier of New Brunswick. Also in attendance was Colin Brewster, president of the Northern New Brunswick Airport Authority Inc.
“We are so very pleased with this announcement. The airport is a vital part of economic development in Northern New Brunswick. The expansion of our terminal and lengthening of our runway will allow for a safer and more comfortable experience for all using the airport. We would especially like to underline our partnership with the Government of Canada and the Government of New Brunswick for making this project a reality,” said Brewster.
The expansion project will double the size of the airport’s terminal building and extend the runway to nearly 1,800 metres. This will help accommodate larger aircraft, process passengers more efficiently, and provide the more-than-50,000 travellers who use the airport annually with more current amenities. Once complete, the work will also encourage business from new partners, promoting economic development in the region as a whole.
The governments of Canada and New Brunswick are each contributing up to $2,095,108 to this project through the Provincial−Territorial Infrastructure Component (National and Regional Projects) of the New Building Canada Fund, representing two-thirds of the estimated $6.28 million total project cost. The Northern New Brunswick Airport Authority will cover the remaining costs.
