Canam Group Inc. has reorganized its structural steel activities, and is cutting 30 jobs.

Kurt Langsenkamp, president of FabSouth LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Canam Group, which specializes in structural steel, will also oversee Canam-Heavy. Peter Frantz, senior vice-president, sales and business development, and Serge Dussault, vice-president, engineering and preconstruction services for the Canam-Heavy division, will retain their business development responsibilities and report to Kurt Langsenkamp.

Langsenkamp and his team will establish in the heavy structural steel division the same processes that have supported FabSouth’s strong performance since its beginnings. They will also adjust the business model so these activities generate returns in line with the human, physical and financial resources that the Corporation invests in them. Canam Group’s management intends to continue to work on the heavy structural steel and complex projects market throughout North America.

In line with this change, the project management and structural steel staffing levels are being reduced by approximately thirty positions. These layoffs are concentrated in the Boucherville administrative center.

“This adjustment clarifies the accountability for the results of our structural steel division, all while encouraging the agility and ingenuity that have been behind our success for the last 55 years,” explained Marc Dutil, Canam Group’s President and CEO. Mr. Dutil added that management had to make this decision in order to support the growth of the Corporation.
