The Sept-Îles Detention Centre, a suburban building completed in August 2016 that fully meets the site’s safety and functional requirements, recently received LEED certification. This underscores Pomerleau’s commitment to its clients who want to adopt environmentally-friendly approaches to achieve their sustainable infrastructure goals.
The Sept-Îles Detention Centre can accommodate 55 inmates and 16 intermittent offenders. The new state-of-the-art building meets the highest safety standards, provides a high quality work environment for its employees, and has helped the region deal with prior issues of prison overcrowding.
LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a project has been designed and built using strategies aimed at achieving high performance in key areas of human and environmental health.
From an eco-responsible perspective, the building was built to maximize energy efficiency, and reduce water consumption and greenhouse gas emissions using a fully electric system. In addition, during construction, Pomerleau implemented responsible site waste management, and used recycled regional materials to ensure that the entire process is anchored in this environmentally-friendly approach.
